Non-Destructive Training and Testing

Additional Information

Weldcare provide training and certification in accordance with ASNT (The American Society for Non-destructive Testing) available throughout the UK:

MAGNETIC PARTICLE INSPECTION (MPI or MT)

Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI) is a Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) method used for detecting surface and near surface flaws and defects. MPI is fast and relatively easy to apply, and surface preparation is not as critical as it is for other NDT methods. These characteristics make MPI one of the most widely utilized non-destructive testing methods. MPI uses magnetic fields and small magnetic particles like iron filings to detect flaws in components. The only limitation is the component must consist of a ferromagnetic material (i.e. iron, nickel, cobalt, or one of their alloys). The method is used to inspect a variety of products including castings, forgings, and weldments.

Dye Penetrant Inspection (DPI or PT)

Penetrant inspection is a surface inspection process which is not limited by the geometry of the surface under test and is capable of detecting a wide variety of surface breaking discontinuities.

Dye penetrant inspection can be applied to both ferrous and non-ferrous materials (e.g. aluminium or stainless steel) and non-porous materials.

The method is portable, rapid and provides easily visible evidence of defects, and can be applied on-site, without the requirement for electrical supply or liquids.

Course details

These courses require no prior training or experience. The course is presented in a manner that promotes understanding and the ability to make immediate application. This is an excellent course for NDT trainees who must have Level I and II training in order to qualify for certification as well as facility personnel who are responsible for or oversee the application of testing or Quality Control/Quality Assurance.
